Jardins da Água
Water-themed attraction in the Parque das Nações, with waterfalls, meandering rivers & estuaries.
Welcome to Jardins da Água, a captivating water-themed attraction located in Lisbon's Parque das Nações. Created for the 1998 World Exposition, this garden highlights the essential role of water through stunning waterfalls, meandering rivers, and artificial estuaries. As you explore, you'll discover the Jardim das Palmeiras with its towering palm trees and tranquil water wall, the Pomar do Mediterrâneo filled with vibrant fruit trees, and the Lago de Ulisses, a peaceful lake beneath a stone walkway. The Edifício da Cascata features impressive cascading water, while the Jardim Hidráulico showcases historic hydraulic machines that illustrate water’s importance in human progress.
In May 2018, the garden was renamed Jardim Mário Ruivo, honoring a local figure and continuing its legacy as both a recreational space and an educational hub. Jardins da Água is easily accessible by public transportation, including buses 728 and 750, the U train, or the Red Metro Line. This makes it an ideal spot for leisurely walks and reflection.
The garden not only offers natural beauty but also reflects the innovative spirit of EXPO'98, which transformed Parque das Nações into a modern urban area with landmarks like the Vasco da Gama Bridge and the world’s largest aquarium. Today, Jardins da Água remains a vital green space in Lisbon, hosting cultural events and activities that celebrate the harmonious relationship between water and humanity. Whether you’re relaxing by the waterfalls or exploring the educational displays, Jardins da Água provides an enriching experience for visitors seeking both beauty and insight.
