Standing at one hundred nine meters tall, this statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with open arms symbolizes peace and gratitude. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, it was envisioned in nineteen thirty-four by Cardinal Dom Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira during his visit to Brazil. Construction began in nineteen forty-nine and was completed ten years later, welcoming three hundred thousand people at its inauguration.
