MAC/CCB Museu de Arte Contemporânea
Modern & contemporary art museum, with works by Picasso, Bacon & Warhol plus temporary exhibitions.
Welcome to the Museu de Arte Contemporânea Centro Cultural de Belém (MAC CCB), nestled in the heart of Lisbon’s vibrant Belém district. This modern sanctuary is part of the Centro Cultural de Belém, a stunning architectural marvel with walls of limestone that shimmer in the sunlight, mirroring the historic Mosteiro dos Jerónimos nearby.
Opened in January two thousand twenty-three, the museum evolved from the renowned Berardo Collection Museum, which captivated visitors with over one thousand artworks from movements like Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Pop Art. Here, you can still admire masterpieces by Picasso, Bacon, and Warhol, each piece telling a unique story through vivid colors and bold forms.
As you walk through the spacious galleries, the air is filled with a sense of creativity and inspiration. Temporary exhibitions rotate regularly, ensuring there’s always something new to discover. Whether it’s a cutting-edge installation or a thought-provoking sculpture, the museum continuously refreshes its offerings to keep the experience exciting.
Entrance is just five euros, with additional fees for special shows. The Centro Cultural de Belém itself is a hub of activity, featuring beautiful gardens where you can relax, performance centers for live events, and conference areas for cultural gatherings. Inside, the sleek design of the Exhibition Center provides the perfect backdrop for both timeless classics and contemporary innovations.
MAC CCB plays a pivotal role in Lisbon’s cultural scene, hosting workshops, lectures, and performances that engage and educate. Accessible to all, the museum welcomes visitors from around the world to explore its rich collections and enjoy its vibrant atmosphere. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply seeking a cultural adventure, MAC CCB offers an unforgettable experience that celebrates the dynamic spirit of modern art in Lisbon.
