Amoreiras Shopping Center
High-end shopping center since 1985 with a cinema, food court, kids' playground & rooftop viewpoint.

Welcome to Amoreiras Shopping Center – a place that transformed how people in Lisbon live, shop, and view their city.
You’ll see towers in pink, orange, and yellow with mirrored windows reflecting Lisbon’s sky. Architect Tomás Taveira envisioned two knights defending a lady, combining a playful medieval theme with postmodern style. The bold shapes and colors are hallmarks of postmodernism, offering something lively and meaningful.
Built in the nineteen eighties, Lisbon was rapidly changing. Amoreiras opened in nineteen eighty-five on a former bus and tram station. At that time, Lisbon’s shopping scene was downtown, not on this hilltop. Amoreiras offered something new: nearly two hundred forty shops, a cinema, and a chapel for quiet moments. The concept of shopping and relaxing under one roof was novel in Portugal.
Locals had mixed feelings. Some saw it as futuristic; others thought it was out of place. This debate made Amoreiras one of the city's most talked-about buildings. The center quickly became a status symbol, drawing people from all over the country. For many, it was their first taste of international fashion or simply the thrill of an escalator ride.
Amoreiras shifted Lisbon’s center of gravity. Offices and apartments came, making Campolide a lively hub. Despite a personal scandal involving Tomás Taveira, his work earned its place in Lisbon’s history.
Don’t miss the Amoreiras three sixty Panoramic View. Step onto the rooftop for views of Lisbon—that is, red-tiled roofs, the castle, bridges, and the distant Atlantic. Spot historic landmarks like the Águas Livres Aqueduct nearby.
Today, shops reflect Lisbon life—classic Portuguese brands, cafés, and bookshops. Local regulars and travelers mingle in the busy food court or browse fashion that once set new trends in the city.
Even without shopping, visiting here lets you feel a defining chapter of modern Lisbon—bold, a bit rebellious, and always looking to the horizon.
